Others find it to be an extremely stressful event that they’d like someone else to handle. Suddath is able to customize the packing and unpacking experience to meet the desires, needs, and budget of each customer.
When you meet with your international moving coordinator, just let them know your preferences. Choose from full-service packing, partial packing, or DIY packing options.
Each country has its list of restrictions for the items it allows to cross its borders. Well before you reach a new country, you’ll need an exhaustive inventory of every item packed into your shipment of personal belongings. Suddath will help you complete all of the necessary inventory steps so that everything you pack is approved to deliver to your new address.
Suddath is certified through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification. Through our work to qualify for this certification, Suddath’s international shipments always adhere to the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) regulations that protect supply chain, identify security gaps, and implement specific security measures and best practices. Suddath provides international moving services via air, sea, and land to get your items to your new home as quickly and safely as possible. All air and ocean freight shipments are packed to meet international shipment standards that are checked for holes and potential leaks prior to departure.
Before and after your container’s arrival at the port, it is held in a secure customs facility until being released into our care and delivered to you.

There are several things you can do to perform due diligence and make sure you’re choosing the right international moving company for you. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, or FMCSA, is a valuable source of information. This organization makes sure that all commercial carrier vehicles that meet specific requirements have a Department of Transportation (DOT) number.
Once you have the DOT number, head over to the FMCSA website and look up the moving company’s compliance. You can also ask the moving company directly for their (DOT) number.
Another way to make sure you are working with a reputable international mover is to pay special attention to the company’s process for providing a quote. If your overseas mover offers pricing before performing a walkthrough, or if the pricing is vague or if the company is unwilling to commit to a specific number, we recommend finding a different moving company in the Seattle area.
We also recommend that you ask your mover for a record of all of the accreditations they have earned and their industry associations. If they are touting awards or accreditations from associations that you cannot find online, this is a red flag. If they have international organizations such as EMMA, CIO, Relocate Global, FAIM, PAIMA or LacMa listed as organizations that recognize their work, these are established, independent organizations you can trust.
Another essential step in verifying the quality of an international moving company is to perform online research through reputable, third-party websites. Once you have completed a read-through of Google Reviews, check with independent organizations like the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”). They can verify that the companies you are considering are established and accredited. The BBB website provides access to complaints and responses so you can judge for yourself if the company handles customer concerns correctly.
Lastly, request their insurance information and be sure it’s up to date. Every reputable international moving company is accustomed to supplying this information to its customers and will do so willingly. Any hesitation or inability to provide this information is a huge red flag, and we recommend that you continue your search elsewhere.
Once your items are en route to your new home, our technology will allow you to track your shipment. If your overseas move includes storage in our warehouse, our warehouse management system allows us to scan each and every item as it arrives at the warehouse.
Alongside the rigorous training of our crew in how to handle items, Suddath uses floor and door jamb protection in every location of your overseas move. Your furniture is padded inside the home so that there are no damages while we move each piece onto the truck, and no damages if there is any shifting once we’re on the road.
If you live in an apartment, we will work with you and your building manager to ensure that we are compliant with any rules or restrictions. Our crew will use additional floor protection and elevator protection where necessary.
Ideally, we recommend that you begin the process no later than three months prior to your desired move date. This timeframe is a bit longer than you would need for a local or cross-country move. International relocation has several layers of added complexity, so you want to give yourself plenty of time. It will require paperwork, visas, and cargo logistics set up before we start loading your belongings.
