The Wilshire Grand Hotel
Los Angeles, CA
Even though the building was still under construction, lacked loading docks and was located in a bustling downtown, Suddath took charge, and completed the job in a timely and organized fashion.
The Wilshire Grand Hotel is the tallest building west of Chicago in the epicenter of Los Angeles. With the hotel still under construction and loading docks incomplete, the client needed a partner to create a detailed plan to tackle the project and move over two million pounds of FF&E, including restaurant, public space and banquet room assets in a four-month timeframe. Due to a shrinking completion deadline, The Wilshire Grand Hotel had a very aggressive schedule and faced logistical challenges with the location being in the middle of a bustling city.
Project Goal: To handle warehousing, delivery and installation of a 900-Room hotel in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
Suddath® worked with the ownership group to close a side street adjacent to the hotel property. This allowed us to offload closer to the main entrance and near the elevator corridor. Suddath built a temporary portable dock to place on the street for offloading and protected the floors with the appropriate materials. These proactive measures created efficiencies in the installation process and made the short installation period attainable. In addition, we stored over 2.5 million pounds of goods by redesigning our current warehouse configuration to accommodate the immediate need for such a large space. Using the latest CAD technology, our team quickly determined the best layout for a smooth in-and-out process. This allowed the material to flow uninterrupted, while keeping up with the demands of the call-offs on site.
