1.Do I need valuation coverage?

Valuation is a great tool for peace of mind. Your standard coverage, which you automatically receive at no cost, will compensate $0.60 per lb. for damaged items. This can be significantly less than the value of many items in a home, so valuation coverage will account for that gap. Our San Jose movers are trained professionals, but even our most prepared and tenured professionals have had damage occur on their moves. It’s also always a good idea to check with your own homeowner’s policy to determine coverage you may already have. 

2.Can Suddath move my car?

Absolutely. Moving vehicles is quite common to move in tandem with your household goods, so we move cars frequently, and even occasionally boats.

3.Can I choose any day to load my stuff?

Relocations have many variables, so depending on the size and type of move you may be able to secure a specific load day, but it is always beneficial to have flexibility on loading days. While you can choose any day to load your stuff, certain days may be more expensive based on a few factors. For instance, to keep costs as low as possible, there may be multiple shipments on a single truck since few people can actually fill up a trailer when moving.

4.How can I prepare for my move?

Your move coordinator can provide you with a comprehensive guide to help navigate the weeks and days before your move. It includes everything from defrosting the refrigerator to contacting your phone carrier.

One significant preparation that is important, and directly related to your move, is ensuring that you designate an area (like a closet, drawer or small room) to put things in that you do not want relocated. This would include medicine, passports, your favorite pillow, or important toys for your children. Things move very fast on move day and this easy step can ensure you have what you need while traveling to your destination. 

5.What is a common issue for moving in San Jose and how do you deal with it?

Parking can be a challenge on the busy streets in the Bay Area. We have the local experience to know where we might experience issues and take steps to avoid them. For instance, parking permits might be needed to reserve a space large enough for the truck to park to load and unload your household goods. So, we secure these permits in advance with enough notice based off information gathered from you during your moving survey.

6.What if you break something? How do I submit a claim?

Unfortunately claims do occur from time to time. Your dedicated move coordinator will supply you with a claim form, and you will have a designated professional claims coordinator who will walk you through the process.

7.What are my different options for an estimate? How can you simplify the process for me?

Suddath will supply you a straightforward and easy-to-interpret quote. We provide free in-home or virtual walkthroughs – which are done directly from your phone or tablet – which are done according to your preference. You can have a binding quote, which is based off that walkthrough, or a non-binding quote, which is based off the total weight of your move.

8.What do you do to ensure my items and property are safe and secure during the moving process?

The core of our business is to provide safe and secure relocation of your household goods, and that starts with our people. All van operators, packers and movers undergo thorough background checks and drug testing for your peace of mind. They undergo thorough training in both safety, and in our packing and moving processes at Suddath University at our Jacksonville, FL location.

Whether being transported on our locked trailers or being stored in our secure facilities, you can feel confident knowing that your goods are in safe hands with our local moving company.

Also, all our van operators train in soft skills and customer service at Suddath University, which makes them an asset on moving day, to help you trust that your move is in capable hands. 

11.What advice or moving tips can you provide in selecting a mover / in preparing for my move?

Our industry does unfortunately have some predatory establishments that can take advantage of the naïve consumer. You can protect yourself by choosing a moving company affiliated with a major van line, like United Van Lines. In California, you can ensure you are working with a trusted organization by checking if they are members of the California Moving and Storage Association, and also on file with the Public Utilities Commission as a licensed mover.

12.Can my possessions be temporarily stored with Suddath? If so, what are the differences between short-term and long-term storage?

Yes. The primary difference between short (commonly referred to as storage in transit or S.I.T.) and long-term storage (also known as permanent storage), is the timeframe for which your household items will be stored. I think it’s important to note that for interstate moves, short-term storage caps at 180 days. In either case, your items will be stored in a fully-enclosed and locked storage vault within our warehouse. With vault storage, our warehouse staff will pad wrap your valuables and carefully store them in the container.

13.Do you offer any discard and donation programs for unwanted items on move day?

We participate in a discard and donate program through our partnership with Move For Hunger, a non-profit organization that teams up with those of us in the moving and relocation industries to fight hunger. We collect non-perishable food items from our customers – things they might not want to take with them anyway – and deliver them to local food banks in San Jose.

It’s a free service to customers and turns every move into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people in need. Suddath and our customers have donated over 41,600 lbs. of food in 2017 to Move For Hunger through this very important partnership.

14.What commercial moving services do you offer?

Suddath offers all levels of commercial moving services. Our team performs everything from space planning to installation labor. If you have a workspace need, we have a solution.

We work in several Fortune 500 company workplaces in the area providing a plethora of services. We specialize in MAC (moves, adds and changes) and can put together customized MAC programs for our clients. Our services range from something as small as installing a keyboard tray up to several thousand cubicle reconfigurations. We even have ergonomic evaluation technicians to help provide your team a safe and comfortable place to work.

15.Do you offer a declutter program to temporarily store items?

Suddath does have a declutter program to help you temporarily store your items using our storage containers at a very reasonable price. Ask your move coordinator to explain the declutter program in detail during your in-home survey, but essentially, it can be a great solution to adding extra value to your home when in the process of selling it. Then, when you’re ready, we can deliver your goods back to you.
