We can take you anywhere you need to go

Moving across the country is a very different experience than moving across town. At Suddath®, we embody 100 years of long-distance moving experience; no place is too far or too remote, and we use efficient planning and logistics to ensure you get your items in the time frame you need them.

While you will be working with a local Suddath team in Dallas to start your move, facilitating your full move may require working with a strong partner agent. In order to ensure that we can take you anywhere you need to go across the country, we have a long-standing relationship with America's #1 van line and agent network, United Van Lines.

With top-rated, award-winning drivers and fully-vetted moving partners through the UniGroup/United Network, you can be assured that your belongings will be handled with care and your long-distance move will go smoothly. Our partner networks offer 600 agent locations and service 180,000 moves annually. They are carefully evaluated, adhering to the same safety standards Suddath is known for, including background checks, screenings, and hundreds of training hours.

Less stressful long-distance moves

Moving long distance requires the ultimate effort in planning. Noted as the third most stressful time in a person's life, our goal is to simplify the moving process from the initial estimation process all the way to final delivery. Your single point of contact at Suddath will be dedicated to your move, helping you plan, managing details and freeing up your time so that you can attend to the personal aspects and life changes that come with moving long distance.

Your Suddath move coordinator will work with you to create a customized plan that aligns with your schedule and budget. Using a service such as the virtual walkthrough, where we assess your move via smart device, or In-person walkthrough, where one of our move coordinators meets you at your residence to assess the scope of your move, is critical to the overall moving plan. Whichever walkthrough option is most convenient for you, our experts will assess your move in order to help save you time and money, and to account for any special circumstances, like items that may require specialized equipment or packing preparation.

Of course, in a move of any distance, but especially one with a long-distance destination, your moving company must be adaptable to manage any unforeseen circumstances. With Suddath, there is no need to stress when a change of plan arises.–For example, storage needs may change suddenly. Much like our 148,000-square foot storage warehouse in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we have similar facilities across the nation that accommodate short- and long-term storage needs quickly and efficiently, providing 24/7 monitoring and climate-controlled options to keep your household goods and valuables safe.

A vast array of customizable services

Customizable moving services, trained staff, and established partners are just some of the reasons that Suddath is synonymous with reliability in the moving industry. Since 1992, we have served the Dallas-Fort Worth area with both local and long-distance moving needs, cultivating a relationship of trust with our clients and within the community. While you can expect the highest level of service and expertise as it relates to standard moving operations, at Suddath, we pride ourselves on the “extras” that help deliver a more customer-centric experience such as:

  • Concierge moving
  • Declutter services
  • Discard and Donate Programs like Move For Hunger
  • A Packing Menu for DIY, Full, Partial Options
  • A-Z Moving experts from Boats to Pianos

Our crews have been trained to handle most any residential move, ranging from small apartments to large estates needing special oversight and care. Your dedicated moving coordinator will be with you throughout the process to manage all the “moving” parts, including timing, which can often pose an issue when moving to far-away locations. Traffic, constructions delays, weather and more can all cause a schedule to go awry despite the best planning. You can trust that we know the status of your move at any given moment – our support staff will be digitally keeping track of your items in our system.

A-Z moving from antiques to vehicles

When moving locally, you may have some more options at your disposal to personally transport some of your more prized possessions because of close proximity. But when moving long-distance, the options you have for personal transportation may be limited.

The Suddath team is here to help solve problems – and treat your items with respect and care during the long trip ahead. Larger, big ticket items, like cars, boats, pianos, fine art, etc. are handled safely and securely and their delivery is efficiently managed through your detailed, agreed-upon plan.

In our 100 years in business, Suddath has had many requests for moving unusual items. We have successfully moved military bases, Egyptian relics and even Mickey Mouse. We are proud of our team’s ability to generate creative and innovating moving solutions, to keep our customers’ satisfaction as a top priority.

Long-Distance Moving FAQs

1. A reputable long-distance moving company is paramount… how should I go about finding and evaluating one?

Due diligence is key – in researching, referrals and ensuring the organization meets all compliance and regulation standards in the industry. The Better Business Bureau, user reviews from trusted sources such as Google, accreditations and positive recognition are all helpful resources. At a minimum, it is important to make sure that your moving company has a valid DOT number on the FMSCA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) official website, as this is a requirement for all commercial carrier vehicles.

Ask to see documentation for accreditations, certificates, and insurance policies. Confirm that they offer valuation coverage and understand the claims process for damaged and lost goods.

Insist on a walkthrough, whether in-person or via a virtual source. It is difficult to accurately estimate the costs and time needed to move a home sight unseen and most established moving companies will require a walkthrough prior to the move date. A moving company refusing to confirm a price range and avoiding specifics can be a red flag.

2. What does a “walkthrough” entail?

With Suddath, we offer two options for an in-home survey of your home and your belongings to estimate your move. At your convenience and by your choice, our representative will perform either:

  • An in-person home survey
  • A virtual walkthrough

The virtual walkthrough can be done easily from your phone or tablet. This is a time-saving option for many customers. Early in the morning, or perhaps after work, you can pick a time that is convenient for you with little interruptions where a representative can survey your home using an application similar to FaceTime or Skype. As you guide a move coordinator through your home, we can ask the necessary questions, take important notes and identify potential unique circumstance that a crew may encounter on moving day that we can plan for. The more we can plan, the better we can save time and increase efficiencies for a successful move.

With either option, Suddath will be able to provide accurate moving logistics, and provide you with a detailed, itemized and finalized moving quote.

3. During the long-distance moving process, how you do ensure the safety and security of my goods?

Our first order of business is to complete a detailed inventory of your items. The virtual or in-house walkthrough will help with that. We will pack and log all items, noting any existing damages or special indicators attributed to your items so that we have a record of their condition prior to the move. We will then create a catalog of your items with box labels and markers for room locations.

As actual moving gets underway, we will follow our procedures for home protection to cover floors, protect doors, pad furniture, etc. and then systematically begin emptying the contents of your home into our moving vehicles. The items will be loaded into the truck carefully, and tightly, so as to avoid any shifting while traveling. As road travel begins, our support staff will continue to monitor the trip for timing and keep track of the items digitally.

4. We may need help moving our pets and a vehicle. Can you help with that?

Yes. We have solutions for moving the family car and the family pet!

As an agent for United Van Lines, we are provided with preferred vendors to help with the relocation of automobiles for our valued customers. Your move coordinator will work directly with United to provide a quote, along with pickup and delivery information, to assist you with this service request.

For your furry friends, we work with an organization called Air Animal, established in 1971, to provide pet relocation services for our Dallas-Fort Worth customers and clients across the nation. Our blog post on how to manage pets during your move offers helpful advice if you decide to transport your pets yourself.
