JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Jan. 03, 2017) – Following a long, distinguished, and award-winning career, Bob Thomas has officially announced his plan for retirement at the end of the year from his position as Senior Vice President of FF&E/Hospitality for Suddath Global Logistics.
Bob has played a vital part of Suddath® since first joining Suddath Van Lines back in June, 1974 in Doraville, Georgia as a part-time helper. Bob was just 18 years old at the time, and even at that impressionable age was filled with ambitions to help our company grow. Quickly moving through a variety of positions including contract packer, dispatch clerk, and warehouseman before eventually being promoted to the role of operations manager for Suddath Miami in 1979; Bob would soon move to Jacksonville to work in long distance dispatch – which quickly led to his naming as General Manager of the developing Suddath Transportation Services group in 1990.
From its humble beginnings with just two employees whose job it was to provide specialized transportation services for the shipment of non-household goods to companies across the United States, Bob helped guide and grow the business unit into what it is today, a true cornerstone of Suddath Global Logistics.
In his role as Senior Vice President of Global Logistics, Bob has worked diligently to bring value to our clients and continued growth and success to our company. He has been instrumental in building the Hospitality team to what it is today. Bob’s hard work and dedication has helped secure over $20 million in business, including some of our largest projects and clients, such as McDonalds, Walgreens and Eyecare Centers.
From the start of his 42-year career with our company, Bob has established himself as the ultimate team player. Always willing to lend support to those around him, Bob embodies the heart of Suddath. He is active in both company and community events such as leading our involvement with Habijax for Humanity for seven years and personally helping to coordinate the recovery of several branch office locations following damage caused by hurricanes and other times of crisis.
Bob remained the Senior Vice President of Suddath Global Logistics until the end of 2016, after which he embraced a well-deserved retirement which he enjoys with his wife, Joanne, their daughters, and grandchildren.
